By using lifeonboard.io you agree to these terms. They are meant to be readable, so here they are in plain language.
Your payment is final: you cannot cancel it or return the pixels, and your purchase is added permanently to the pixel's ownership record. If we cannot deliver pixels you paid for, we refund the full amount we charged. That does not mean you keep the pixel forever: you own it until someone else buys it from you at a higher price, or until we take it down for breaking these rules (see The board). Every pixel starts at $0.10, and each time a pixel is bought its next minimum price rises by 50% (at least $0.10). The price shown is what you pay. Every pixel's exact price is shown before you pay, and a card-processing fee (Stripe) is added on top as its own line item, so the fee is paid by you, the buyer, not deducted from the artist.
There is a minimum order: your total, with that fee included, has to come to at least $0.50. A smaller order is refused at checkout, before any payment is taken, so you can add more pixels and buy them together.
Being outbid (someone buying a pixel you own at a higher price) is not a refund event: the pixel stays available to eligible buyers at its then-current price, subject to any checkout reservation in progress.
Because a pixel is delivered instantly as a digital good, you ask us to begin performance right away and, where you would otherwise have a statutory right of withdrawal (for example as an EU consumer), you accept that it ends once the pixel is delivered.
The board is a fixed grid of 72,000 pixels (360×200) and never grows. No pixel is ever added or removed, and none can be resized or repositioned. Any pixel may be bought from its current owner at its current price by an eligible buyer, subject to any checkout reservation in progress. For what the board is and how it works, see About.
Because any pixel can be bought at its current price, a pixel you own can be taken over by a later buyer who pays the higher price. That is how the board is meant to work. It is not a bug, not a violation of these terms, and not a refund event. The person whose art sits on a pixel is simply its current owner, for as long as they hold it.
Every pixel keeps an ownership record: the display name, the price paid and the date of each purchase, including past owners who have since been outbid. Buying a pixel does not erase that record; it adds your purchase to it. The record of your having owned it is kept permanently, and we publish it on the board. If we take content down for breaking these rules, we stop publishing what we took down. A purchase taken down in full no longer has a page; where we took down only some of its pixels, the rest stays published, under the same name and at the same link. We still keep the record itself. We can also stop publishing a purchase on its own, without taking its pixels down: the record of it goes, and the pixels you still own keep rendering on the board under your display name. You can ask us to anonymize your display name in it (email support@lifeonboard.io); the price and timing stay, but your name comes off.
You are responsible for everything you place on the board: the display names and colors you choose, the pixel art you draw, and the text prompts you use to generate art. By placing it, you confirm you have the right to do so, and you give us permission to display it on the board and to keep your display name in the pixel's ownership record, which we publish. Display names and art pass a moderation filter, and we may remove or anonymize anything abusive at any time, at our discretion.
You can also generate pixel art from a text prompt. AI-generated images are checked by an automated moderation step before you can buy them, but automated checks are imperfect, and you remain responsible for what you generate and place exactly as if you had drawn it yourself. We may refuse, remove, or take down AI content at our discretion. If you believe something on the board infringes your intellectual-property or other rights, email support@lifeonboard.io and we will review it.
Keep it legal and decent. In particular, do not submit names, colors, drawings, or prompts that contain:
This list is not exhaustive; we may remove anything we reasonably consider abusive, even if it is not spelled out above.
Buying any pixel lets you report content on the board that breaks these rules: checkout issues you a reporting credential tied to that purchase, not to owning a pixel right now, so you can still report even after you've been outbid. We review reports at our own discretion, and there is no guaranteed response time. If we agree with a report, we may take down the offending content. We remove the pixels in the flagged area that still belong to the people who owned pixels there when the report was filed, which can affect more than the reported pixels. Where we can tell that a pixel has changed hands since then, we leave it alone. Each pixel we remove returns to an eligible previous owner when one can be restored, or otherwise goes back on sale. We may also block a buyer from making further purchases. We identify a blocked buyer by the payment details Stripe gives us and the email used at checkout.
A takedown is not a refund. And being reported, taken down, or taken over never makes a pixel permanently off-limits: every pixel on the board stays eligible to be bought again at its current price, subject to any checkout reservation in progress.
The board carries content from other people. We are not responsible for what other users place on it, beyond removing content once we become aware that it breaks these rules. We moderate on a best-effort basis and do not promise to catch everything.
The service is provided as-is, with no uptime warranty. To the extent permitted by law, our liability to you is capped at the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months. That cap does not apply to our own intent or gross negligence, or to anything else that cannot be limited by law. To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover third-party claims that arise from the names, colors, drawings, or prompts you submit, except to the extent the claim results from our own fault.
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and disputes are subject to the courts of Tokyo.
You must be at least 13 years old to browse. Purchases require the legal capacity to contract, or a guardian's consent.
We may update these terms; the date at the top reflects the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
